Notes: Sorry for the poor quality photos. These were taken at dusk and the slides are almost black. Three Bearcats were lined up in a row. I have no other clues. Do you?

The Grumman F8F Bearcat was the fastest WW-II fighter. It came at the very end of that war and wasn't used in combat, but it saw active duty in Korea. The 1945 Jane's says, "The Bearcat is a smaller, faster and more powerful development of the Hellcat."

Info at RWebs/F8F says it has a maximum speed of 455-mph @ 28,000 feet, cruise speed of 185-220-mph and landing speed of 105-mph. The Bearcat has an initial rate of climb of 6,300 ft/min and a service ceiling 40,800 ft! It has held several speed records and has been a winner in various air races.

The Bearcat's wings fold up for stowage on carriers. Very few are flying today of the 1200 or so that were built.
