Model: F7F Tigercat Registration: FH006
Year: Serial Number:
Engines: P&W R2800, C-Series Owner:
Location: Missoula, MT Photographer: Stoltzfus, Ken
Date: 1962 Present Registration: Present Owner (FAA info):
Notes: Grumman F7F Tigercat air tanker. Sorry I didn't get the registration! Can someone help us with info on this aircraft, and present owner?

The Tigercat has two big P&W R2800 engines, probably 2400-hp on each side! It has about half the wing span and twice the horsepower of a C-47! The Navy operated them from both carriers and land bases. "Gittin" is one of the first words that come to mind!

I well remember when an F7F was sold at Bainbridge Naval Training Center (or something like that) at Bainbridge, MD. It was the mid-60's. A whole, undamaged Tigercat was purchased by a scrap metal company for around $700, as I recall. A complete TBM was also sold for $1200 or so. I believe that Walter Soplata, here in Ohio, eventually wound up with the TBM, but the Tigercat was probably melted down. Sheeech! I remember talking about it with my father. It seemed like a shame, but - - - but what was a guy supposed to do?
