Notes: 9/1/03 - "Class." I'm admittedly biased. There's just something about a nice 450-Stearman that gets to me. This is a nice one! I only wish it would have been a brighter day.

I also got several interesting shots of the shop at Red Stewart Airfield.

Notes: The business end of the Stearman.

This aircraft was done in California about two years ago. You probably recognized that they started with a Twin Beech cowling. The cowl flaps are fixed in the open position.

The fairing on the oil cooler, with a landing light, is new to me. However, the owner said the light doesn't do much good because you can't see over the nose anyway - - as any 450-Stearman veteran knows quite well.

N450JP still has the BT, 27" wheels/tires, but they have recently added the increasingly popular Red Line brakes.

Notes: Firing up. Shucks - - I just missed getting the characteristic little puffs of blue smoke! Unless one's hearing has been distorted by the sissy whine of turbines, the sound of an R985 warming up reaches pretty deep.

Notes: I don't want to sound disrespectful of other fine airplanes that go dragging out, trying to decide if they want to climb or settle a bit, but there's no question about what this airplane wants to do!

Notes: "Gittin!" These airplanes do a lot of things well. This is one of the things they do best.

Notes: A J-3 Cub cowl, upper door, wing struts and other parts in the back of a Stearman hangar! These guys are in touch with some of the better elements of aviation.
